The Internationalisation Strategy for SMEs Grant Scheme is designed to help Maltese businesses explore new markets and prepare a strong, data-driven plan for international expansion.

With funding of up to €20,000, this scheme supports you in developing a tailored market entry strategy that sets your business up for success abroad.

What the Grant Supports

The scheme is designed to help businesses prepare a well-planned and strategic approach to internationalisation through two key phases:

Part 1: Studying opportunities abroad  

  • This phase focuses on collecting insights, evaluating market viability, and identifying the most promising opportunities for expansion.

Part 2: Strategy for elected country/countries  

  • Build on your research by developing a targeted, country-specific market entry strategy to ensure successful expansion.

Funding details

  • Maximum funding of up to €20,000 per undertaking, with part 1 capped at €10,000.
  • The aid intensity is determined by the size of the entity:
    • Micro and Small start-ups (up to 5 years following registration): 60%
    • Micro and Small Enterprises (over 5 years following registration) and Medium-sized : 50%
