Job Description

As our team continues to grow, we are looking for an Accounting Manager who enjoys working with people as much as with numbers. You will lead a team, oversee a portfolio of clients, and be the person clients trust and the team turns to for guidance. Technical skills matter, but equally important is how you lead, communicate and build relationships.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the team
  • Manage, coach and motivate a team of accountants and trainees, helping each person grow their skills and confidence.
  • Hold regular one-to-ones, set clear goals and give honest, constructive feedback.
  • Delegate work thoughtfully so team members learn and take on more responsibility.
  • Build a supportive, collaborative culture where people feel comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas.
  • Manage the client portfolio
  • Plan and allocate client work across the team, keeping deadlines and quality on track.
  • Review work before it goes to clients or to the audit team and use reviews as a coaching opportunity.
  • Spot and fix bottlenecks early and balance workloads fairly.
  • Build client relationships.
  • Act as the main point of contact for your clients, building long-term, trusted relationships.
  • Understand each client's business and anticipate their needs.
  • Handle difficult conversations with tact and clarity.
  • Identify opportunities to add value and introduce other services where they help the client.
  • Technical oversight
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, management accounts and VAT returns.
  • Make sure work meets IFRS/GAPSME and regulatory requirements, conducting research and documenting accounting advice when necessary.
  • Keep up to date with relevant changes and share that knowledge with the team.
Requirements
  • Proven experience managing or supervising a team, ideally in a practice or client-facing accounting environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: you can explain complex matters simply to clients and colleagues alike.
  • Emotional intelligence, patience and interest in developing others.
  • Confidence in building rapport with clients and managing their expectations.
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to juggle multiple clients and priorities.
  • A University degree in accounting, ACCA or equivalent.
  • High proficiency in English; fluency in Maltese is an advantage.
  • Currently based in Malta.
